Sunday? Monday? Tuesday?
No, no, and no.
It appears Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend Camila Alves have decided against following Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s lead in naming their newborn after a day of the week. Rather, the actor just announced his firstborn son will be called Levi Alves McConaughey.
As I mentioned in a previous blog, in which I encouraged you to guess what moniker McConaughey would bestow on his son, the hunky movie star revealed his child was born on Monday at 6:22 p.m. But little did I know that the time of little Levi’s birth would play such a huge role in his name.
According to McConaughey, in the Bible, Levi is another name for the apostle Matthew (Matthew is the Greek name and Levi was the Hebrew name). What’s more:
“Our son was born at 6:22 pm,” McConaughey told OK! magazine earlier today. “And this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible: ‘If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.’”
Levi’s middle name, Alves is a nod to his mom Camila.
“We wanted to incorporate her family name,” noted McConaughey.
I suppose “Monday” was a stretch, but “Sunday” not so much, at least according to Nicole Kidman’s father.
The proud grandpa to one-day-old granddaughter Sunday Rose Kidman Urban says the baby girl’s name is not as unique as many might believe.
Kidman’s father Antony told Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph: “The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it [to Nicole and Keith].”
As it turns out, the Sunday Antony Kidman was referring to is Sunday Reed, an early 20th-century artist’s muse. The paper reports that in January, Kidman and her husband Keith Urban visited an exhibition by artist Sidney Nolan, who had a longtime relationship with Reed and later became his muse.
According to the newspaper, the exhibition featured a quote from Nolan that was scrawled across a wall: “When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth.”
Antony Kidman also revealed that his newborn granddaughter’s middle name, Rose, is a tribute to Urban’s late grandmother who shared the same name.
