Prior to getting pregnant, “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross told a number of entertainment publications that she longed for kids for years. Now she is the mother of 2-month-old twin girls and says she couldn’t be happier. But, that’s not all she is revealing.
The actress recently posed for a multi-page spread in PEOPLE magazine and “opened up” (see: spilled her guts) about how she’s head over heels in love with her new daughters Eden and Savannah. In addition, she finally revealed the information many tabloid reporters were clamoring for prior to the double birth—how she conceived the two fair-skinned babes.
Weeks prior to making the formal announcement that she was pregnant one tabloid snapped shots of Cross and her husband (whom she wed last June) exiting a fertility clinic in L.A. However, none of the mainstream media outlets could confirm that the 45-year-old actress was a patient at the clinic so they kept mum on the conception process and instead let tabloids speculate on the “potential” birth of multiples. As for Cross, she did multiple interviews with various media outlets, but reportedly refused to answer questions regarding conception.
Now, finally, the truth is revealed. Cross recently told PEOPLE magazine that because of her age she wasn’t sure if she and her husband would be able to have children.
“We did in vitro a week after we got married,” she says. “We were supposed to go to Greece and Paris and have this fancy honeymoon, and I said, ‘Let’s stay put and see if we can’t give this baby a chance.'”
The plan worked and Cross delivered the girls via cesarean section about a month before her March due date (according to the magazine, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia).
Look, I realize that conception is a private matter, but that doesn’t stop me from wondering why Cross refused to answer questions regarding her use of in vitro fertilization. What’s to hide? Millions of women her age (and younger) employ the conception method every day. Why was it made out to be such a big secret? And, why wait until now to disclose the information? Are we to believe that Cross was ashamed of having to undergo in vitro fertilization? What do you think?
