I recently blogged about “Desperate Housewives’” star Marcia Cross’ pregnancy. Now word comes that Cross and new husband Tom Mahoney are reportedly expecting twins. According to several entertainment publications, the 44-year-old actress underwent In Vitro Fertilization treatment earlier this year in the hope of conceiving her first child. Cross announced that she is due to give birth in next April, but did not confirm that she will be welcoming twins. Rather, her publicist would only say that Cross is “indeed pregnant.”
However, fans of Cross – who plays uptight Bree Van de Kamp on the hit ABC show – know that she has previously spoken out about the issue of fertility in older woman.
She once told a magazine reporter: “I don’t like the average woman being misled into thinking that fertility is something that goes on forever. When a woman gets older, they get a donor egg, which doesn’t make the baby any less beautiful or perfect. One’s own eggs only last so long, and sometimes at 43 or 44 you can have your own baby, but statistically it’s very difficult and expensive. You don’t want to wait that long.”
Of course, Cross is not the only celebrity in Hollywood expecting twins. Diddy and his long-time girlfriend Kim Porter recently revealed they too are expecting a double birth. And, it must be something in the water these celebs are drinking because US Weekly is now reporting that Patrick Dempsey who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd (a.k.a. Dr. McDreamy) on ABC’s hit show “Grey’s Anatomy” and his wife will also be welcoming twins in 2007.
And one more piece of celebrity baby news: actress Sarah Jessica Parker is reportedly expecting her second child from hubby Matthew Broderick. US Weekly is reporting that the former “Sex And The City” star is currently less than three-months pregnant with another baby, although the report has not been confirmed by the couple’s camp.
According to an US insider: “They’ve been keeping a lid on their happy news because the pregnancy is still in the early stages. But once she’s three months along, they plan to shout about it from the rooftops.” The source also suggested to the magazine that Parker’s pregnancy is the reason she pulled out of shooting new thriller “Vacancy,” where she was to play a serial killer’s prey, the role that has now gone to Kate Beckinsale.
Are the rumors true or false? We’ll know… in less than nine months.
