Celebrity Baby Watch: Diana Krall and Elvis Costello

There seems to be no end to the celebrity baby boom and now we can add Diana Krall and Elvis Costello to the list. A representative for the couple confirmed that they are indeed expecting a little bundle of joy to arrive in December. The couple has been wed for three years. This is Costello’s third marriage (he has one child from his first marriage) and Krall’s first marriage and child.

Krall, a native of British Columbia, has found success with her smooth, jazzy sound. She released her first album, “Stepping Out,” in 1993. Having caught the attention of producer Tommy LiPuma, he produced her second album, “Only Trust Your Heart.” It was with her third album, All for You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio, in 1996 that she won her first Grammy nomination. Although I love all her albums, my personal favorite is “Christmas Songs” which she released in 2005. The 41-year-old songstress is set to release a new album this September.

Elvis Costello (whose real name is Declan Patrick MacManus) has been on the music scene for almost 30 years. Originally labeled punk for lack of a better term, Elvis’ music was later part of the New Wave era that also featured Blondie, Duran Duran, and The Clash. But, Elvis has also recorded country cover songs and albums better labeled pop-soul than New Wave. He has even written several songs with Paul McCartney. He made his first of three appearances on Saturday Night Live in 1977 as a last minute fill in for the turbulent Sex Pistols. His music has appeared in over thirty movies including High Fidelity, The Rugrat Movie, The Wedding Singer, and The Godfather: Part III. In 2004, he and T-Bone Burnett were nominated for a Best Music, Original Song Oscar for the song “Scarlett Tide” from Cold Mountain.

One thing is for sure, Baby Krall-Costello will be able to enjoy great serenades by both parents.
