While we are all a bit astonished by Britney’s very public breakdown, you must remember that breakdowns are nothing new to celebrities. I am sure we all have breakdowns of some type when stress gets to us, but celebrities are constantly under watch, so their breakdowns are usually preserved for posterity. Here are a few meltdowns you may have forgotten about in the wake of Britney’s:
Robert seems to be well on the road to recovery now, but there was a time when he seemed like a hopeless cause. In 1996, he was arrested for wandering into a neighbor’s house and passing out in their child’s bed. Fortunately, Robert got the rehab help he needed and by all accounts, he is doing well now.
Anne Heche
After the breakup of her much publicized relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, Anne seemed to reach the edges of sanity when she went for a drive. She ended up knocking on a stranger’s door, insisting that she was God and mentioning something about alien ships. Anne was admitted to a hospital, but released that same day. She later admitted to having taken the drug Ecstasy. Since then Anne has married (and is in the process of a divorce), became a mother, and is currently starring in her own television show, “Men in Trees.”
It always seems that behind every great comic, there is something dark lurking in the shadows. That may have been the case in 1996 when funnyman Martin Lawrence got out of his car in the middle of an intersection in Sherman Oaks, CA. He had a gun and was screaming “Fight the power” before restrained and taken to his doctor. His doctor later said Lawrence had a seizure because he had not taken his prescribed medication.
Lisa Nicole Carson
Lisa Nicole Carson starred in the television show “Ally McBeal,” but things turned ugly in 2001 at the L’Ermitage hotel restaurant. After she reportedly spent hours sitting alone and talking to herself, she started screaming things such as “I have snakes on me!” and “It’s biting me.” The police were called and she was arrested for interfering with a business establishment and not leaving the premises. It seems that since that incident, Lisa Nicole has retired from acting.
