Why mess with success? With Disney’s High School Musical 2, attracting 17.24 million viewers on Friday (making it the single most-watched basic cable telecast in history), why wouldn’t producers follow it up with another sequel to the sequel?
Plug your ears and brace yourself for the blood-curdling screams that will come from tweens across the country when they learn High School Musical 3 is in the works – as is a movie feature that will play in theaters. And High School Musical 4 is in the planning stages.
Also on tap for the Disney Channel: the upcoming debut of High School Musical: The Music In You. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as a musical-documentary that chronicles how some Texas teens produce a stage version of High School Musical with their own special touches.
Before he heads for the big screen in High School Musical 3, hunky teen heartthrob Zac Efron will be starring in the romantic comedy Seventeen. This marks Efron’s first role as a leading man in a major motion film.
Producers describe the film as a backwards Big. It follows a “36-year-old man in need of a major life do-over, who wakes up in the body of a good looking high school senior” played by Efron.
In addition to Seventeen, Efron is also reportedly in talks to star in a remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon film Footloose.
Also making their way back to the big screen are Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. The stars who currently share the same hair color will star in the comedy Marley & Me, according to Variety.
The film is based on the John Grogan best seller about a Labrador retriever. Marley the dog was adopted by Grogan and his wife, as a pre-cursor to parenthood. However, the pup proves to be a handful. The movie documents Marley’s life wreaking havoc on the house, getting kicked out of obedience school and becoming an indispensable part of the family.
