Celebrity Do-Gooders: Pizza and Progress

Okay, he’s not exactly saving the world, or feeding starving children, but Drew Carey is still using his millions (okay, it only cost him a few hundred dollars) to make people happy.

The actor turned game show host is celebrating Saturday’s season finale of “The Price as Right” by having his favorite pizzas shipped to Los Angeles from his hometown pizzeria in Ohio.

Carey, who claims the best pizza in the world is made at Antonio’s restaurant near his boyhood home in Cleveland, wanted to do something special for the cast and crew of the popular game show he hosts so he is having UPS deliver dozens of the pies from Ohio all the way to California.

According to reports, Carey ordered 45 pizza pies to be delivered to the TV studio this weekend. The pizzeria’s owners say the order will cost Carey $450, but that doesn’t include the steep delivery charge.

Meanwhile, the ultimate Hollywood do-gooders–Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie—-have done it again. The generous couple just donated $1 million to help kids affected by the war in Iraq.

According to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, Brangelina’s hefty donation will be divided between four organizations working on behalf of children who have lost parents, homes and schools in Iraq. In addition, children in the United States who have lost parents in the war will also benefit.

Project managers say the Armed Services YMCA Operation Hero Program, which provides military children with counseling and educational support will see the money first. Then, Women for Women International, which provides books, school supplies and other basic necessities to Iraqi women and children, will get their share shortly thereafter.

The International Rescue Committee will also get a chunk of Brangelina’s donation. Organizers with the group say the money will go to repair three schools and offer classes for more than 2,500 students. Finally, NineMillion.org, says it plans to use its share of the money to provide school uniforms and learning materials to more than 2,000 displaced Iraqi kids.
