With the millions of dollars Italian con man Raffaello Follieri (a.k.a. Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend) cheated investors out of you’d think he’d have enough to buy a clue.
The 30-year-old businessman, who went from nearly wedding the charming young actress to serving prison time for fraud, is apparently having a hard time adjusting to life in federal jail.
According to court documents, Follieri has a litany of complaints about his current housing situation. Hathaway’s ex reportedly had his lawyer send a letter to a judge this week complaining about the Brooklyn facility he is currently doing time in.
“Mr. Follieri reports that he is in a windowless dormitory with approximately 120 other men,” the letter said. “He says that he cannot eat because the food appears to be spoiled and that the toilet and shower facilities are unspeakably unsanitary. e.g., there is excrement in the shower and rats are roaming freely in the area. He says the stench is intolerable.”
DUH!
What did he expect life in prison was going to entail? Daily massages, 800-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, gourmet meals served on fine China and bubble baths drawn by prison guards?
C’mon Follieri even Martha Stewart did her time behind bars with fewer complaints.
According to the cad’s lawyer, things are so bad at the prison that Follieri has been ill for the majority of the time he has been there. (Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison last month.) The formerly pampered playboy claims he has had a fever, blood in his urine, intestinal problems and shortness of breath.
Yesterday Follieri’s attorney asked a judge to have the con man transferred back to the federal jail in Manhattan where he was previously housed during his trial.
The judge didn’t rule on the request, but noted that he would ask the government to look into Follieri’s complaints.
What a difference a year makes: Last year at this time Follieri was sharing a $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment with Hathaway and now he’s showering with rats.
