Yesterday, I was talking about new moms in Hollywood who have adopted. Trainer Jillian Michaels and partner Heidi Rhoades just welcomed daughter Lukensia after a long adoption process.
But, apparently the wait got to be too much for the wannabe moms and Rhoades got pregnant while waiting for the adoption to go through. Right after bringing Lukensia home from Haiti, Rhoades gave birth to the couple’s son, Phoenix. Michaels told PEOPLE, “We’re swimming in babies over here.”
Rhoades had initially opted for natural childbirth but after 27 hours of labor, the doctors deemed it necessary to perform a c-section. Michaels said it was hard watching Rhoades go through the long labor and not be able to do anything for her. But, because Rhoades is recovering from surgery, Michaels is doing double baby duty. Rhoades calls her an “amazing mom.”
While it might seem overwhelming to go from no children to two in the same week, the new moms are handling it well. Michaels has said of both children, “I want to be really present and enjoy all the nuances of their growth and development.” No doubt that will include a lot of physical activity.
And the final celebrity mom to adopt recently is Charlize Theron. She broke up with longtime boyfriend Stuart Townsend in 2010, but the desire to be a mom was still there. In fact, like Heigl, Theron said she wanted to adopt from an early age.

In March of this year, she adopted son Jackson, who was 9 days old when she got him. Like Michaels and Rhoades, the adoption process was not easy. It took Theron two years as well to complete the process.
Of the fact that she’s a single mom, Theron said, “You know, I don’t think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn’t wish for that, but it happened.”
