Celebrity REAL or RUMOR: Eva Pregnancy and R.E.M. Singer’s Jury Duty

No, Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria-Parker isn’t expecting a baby. Rather, she says she’s just bloated.

Or at least she was when paparazzi snapped a shot of her that has been making the rounds on the Internet under the headline: “Eva’s Pregnant!”

You’ve got to love a star who denies a pregnancy rumor by insisting that the little extra bulge around her belly is just extra helpings of home cooking and not evidence of impending motherhood.

“I’ve been cooking and eating, cooking and eating. I keep telling everyone that I’ve gained 10 pounds just being on strike,” Longoria-Parker told a band of news reporters at the recent opening of her new movie.

The actress also addressed pointed jabs by the media that she didn’t help extinguish pregnancy rumors by arriving at the movie’s press day wrapped in a pink baby blanket, worn over a loose-fitting dress.

“I know – If this isn’t going to spawn pregnancy rumors, I don’t know…” the Desperate Housewives star laughed. “I was freezing, so I had to run down to the gift shop, and they didn’t have any wraps. I grabbed this and was like, ‘It’s so soft, but why is it so small?!’ And they said, ‘It’s for a baby.'”

Asked whether she and her basketball star husband planned to contribute to Hollywood’s latest baby boom in the near future Longoria-Parker said they are “letting God decide it.”

R.E.M. SINGER’S JURY DUTY

Did R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe use his star power to get out of jury duty in Georgia yesterday?

That one is a RUMOR… partially anyway.

Stipe did show up for jury duty service in Athens Monday, but he ended up being among the 15 potential jurors dismissed for a trial that centered around a man accused of sneaking into a middle school and trying to sexually assault a girl.

According to a local newspaper, Stipe told the presiding judge that he could not be fair and impartial in the case because he has been the target of stalkers and death threats. Stipe then noted it was unlikely that he would have experienced the unfortunate events if he weren’t a celebrity.

At least it got him out of jury duty.
