A big date, a big confession, and a big reunion. Just a few of the things making celebrity news today.
Terri and Bindi Irwin’s Big Date
The “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s widow Terri and daughter Bindi made their first public appearance since the memorial service for their beloved husband and father. Just a few hours ago, the Irwin’s attended the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards 2006 at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre. Mother and daughter made the trip to present the final award of the night–an honor that was to have been made by Steve Irwin. “I am the smallest presenter, but I get to give the biggest award,” Bindi told the crowd during the show. The award was for “Fave Aussie” and the winner, singer Guy Sebastian.
Mel Gibson Speaks Out
Actor Mel Gibson has broken his silence. In an interview with Diane Sawyer (a portion of which aired this morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America”) Gibson admitted that he has not touched alcohol for 65 days following his July 28 arrest for drunk driving and his subsequent anti-Semitic rant. The incident, which he is now calling “the stupid rambling of a drunkard,” made international headlines this summer.
Gibson also told Sawyer that alcohol is “poison” and staying sober has been a struggle. The 50-year-old Academy Award-winning director also revealed to Sawyer that he began drinking two months before his drunk driving arrest. In August, Gibson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving with an elevated blood-alcohol level and was sentenced to three years probation. He’s also been barred from driving for three months and fined $1,300. In addition, Gibson told Sawyer he has volunteered to make a public-service announcement about the hazards of drinking and driving and plans to continue working in Hollywood, though he is aware some people may no longer wish to be associated with him.
Eva Longoria and Tony Parker—Are They Or Aren’t They?
The only thing consistent about Hollywood couples is how inconsistent they are. Such is the case of “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria and boyfriend, NBA star Tony Parker. A few days ago, it was announced that the two-some had called it quits. Now, according to Longoria’s rep the couple is trying to work things out because “there is a genuine love there.” Stay tuned…
The Anna Nicole Saga Continues
In case anyone cares… according to published media reports Howard K. Stern is listed as the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s newborn daughter on her Bahamian birth certificate.
PEOPLE magazine is reporting that on the certificate, issued by the Registrar General’s office in Nassau, The Bahamas, the child is identified as Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, born on September 7th in the Doctors Hospital in Nassau on the island of New Providence. Of course, the news means nothing to photographer Larry Birkhead, who alleges he had a relationship with Smith and claims he is in fact the father of the newborn. P.S. He has filed papers in a California court to establish paternity of the child.
