There was several celebrity splits announced this week- some were the end of a marriage and one was the end of a business relationship.
Morgan Freeman was lucky to get out of a car wreck in one piece earlier this week. The 71 year old actor suffered a broken arm, broken elbow, and injured shoulder after rolling a car in Mississippi. This week, he is getting out of something else – his 24 year marriage. His lawyer, Bill Luckett, announced the Freeman and his wife Myrna Colley-Lee are divorcing. Morgan has two children from previous relationships and adopted Myrna’s daughter, however the couple also has one biological child together, Morgana. They own a home in Tallahatchie County, but no divorce papers have been filed in that county as of yet.
Elsewhere in Celebrity Land, another couple has finalized their divorce. Dixie Chick Emily Robison and her husband, singer-songwriter Charlie Robison dissolved their marriage, with the divorce papers stating the marriage had “become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.” Charlie had filed for divorce earlier this year. The two married in 1999 and have three children. This comes on the heels of Dixie Chick Martie Maguire welcoming her third child, daughter Harper Rosie Maguire, who was born on July 25.
R&B singer Usher’s marriage seems to be going well, but his career has stalled a bit. Perhaps due in part to disappointing album sales for his latest release “Here I Stand, Usher has parted ways with both his manager, Benny Medina, and his public relations firm, W&W Public Relations.
Usher has chosen his mom Jonetta Patton to fill in as his manager…again. Jonetta served as Usher’s manager until he dropped her last year, right before Mother’s Day. But, it seems that now Usher realizes that mama knows best. Under Jonetta’s wing, Usher’s 2004 release “Confessions” sold 9.6 million copies. His latest album has failed to reach a million sales yet.
