STEPPING IN
Actress Mary-Kate Olsen is stepping into a new role. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the former “Full House” star has signed on to be a recurring character on Showtime’s “Weeds.” Network executives confirm that Olsen will appear in 10 of the 15 episodes of the show’s next season. Olsen is reportedly “thrilled” to be making her return to television, though her new role is a far cry from the goodie-goodie PG characters viewers are used to seeing her portray. Let’s face it; “Weeds” isn’t your typical 7 o’clock family-oriented fare—-it’s an adult show with adult subject matter and Olsen will now become another edgy character. I guess we’ll soon be seeing a whole new side of Mary-Kate.
STEPPING OUT
Actress Natalie Portman says she is stepping out of her comfort zone and into a world of “futurist ghosts.” Yeah, it sounds strange, but when you learn that Portman’s new project is the brainchild of Sir Paul McCartney it might make more sense.
The award-winning actress is currently appearing as a dancing ghost in the video for McCartney’s single “Dance Tonight,” which had its worldwide premiere Wednesday on YouTube.
If you are wondering how it is that the 25-year-old actress was hand picked by the legendary entertainer– think family–as in all in the family. McCartney connected with Portman through his fashion-designer daughter, Stella, who makes the non-leather shoes Portman buys.
“I rang her up and said ‘Hey, I’m Stella’s dad!’ ” McCartney told reporters. “She had a bit of time off as she was between films so it was great.”
According to McCartney, Portman plays a “futurist electronic ghost” who dances to the sound of McCartney’s mandolin. As for the song she is grooving to–“Dance Tonight” is the opening track on McCartney’s latest CD, his 21st solo album, Memory Almost Full, which will be released in the U.S. on June 5.
