Celebrity Vegans – Part 1

I have a confession to make – I am a meat lover. I know I need to eat more veggies and fruits, but I honestly don’t ever think I could go totally vegetarian. I love a good steak and burger every once in a while.

I am curious about the vegan diet. Obviously if I couldn’t go straight vegetarian, I really couldn’t go straight vegan (give up cheese – gasp!). But, I eat at a local restaurant that serves vegan items and one day, I promise myself I am going to try it.

However, there are many celebs who are vegan. Some chose it for the healthy lifestyle, some because they are such animal lovers, they cannot imagine eating anything that might harm one.

Here are a few famous celebrity vegans:

Musicians

Alanis Morissette
– After going vegan, Morissette lost 20 pounds and was nominated as one of PETA’s World’s Sexiest Vegetarians.

Andre’ 3000 – The Outkast member became a vegan in 1996.

Anthony Kiedis – The lead singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers decided to become a vegan when a doctor suggested the diet would be good for Kiedis’ son.

Carrie Underwood – The American Idol winner from season four is lactose intolerant and the vegan diet helps.

Brian Adams – The “Cuts like a Knife” singer became a vegan 24 years ago because of his love for animals and says vegan cuisine is easiest to find in India.

Ruben Studdard – The Velvet Teddybear has had weight issues, but claims to have lose 100 pounds since switching to a vegan diet.

Jason Mraz – How do you carrying being a vegan to a new level? Become a raw vegan like Mraz.
k.d. Lang – Lang is another artist who is a vegan due to her love for animals.

Moby – Not only is Moby a vegan, he co-owns a vegan restaurant (TeaNY) in NYC.

Chrissie Hynde – The lead singer for The Pretenders is also a restaurant owner – VegiTerranean in Akron, Ohio.

Tomorrow, I’ll talk about more famous vegans.
