Let’s face it; if actress Naomi Watts didn’t want people to know she was pregnant she should have worn Jennifer Lopez’s dress to the Oscars. Mrs. Marc Anthony’s Oscar gown looked a lot more maternity-like than Watts’s did. Just to set the record straight–Lopez is not pregnant, but Watts is. But, that’s only half the story.
According to Watts’s boyfriend, actor Liev Schreiber, the couple is expecting a child. Schreiber made the announcement on Conan O’Brien’s show last night.
“Yes, I’m going to be a dad,” Schreiber told the Late Night host. “Very exciting.”
This all evolved roughly 24 hours after a press release was issued by a publicist from the Escada fashion house which designed Watts’s Oscar gown. It read: “The ESCADA gown set off her most precious new asset – the baby she is expecting with longtime boyfriend Liev Schreiber.” Basically, the rep from Escada spilled the beans on Watts’s pregnancy. Well, perhaps, not spilled… more like confirmed the spill. A few days earlier a New York newspaper reported that Watts was with child, but the actress’s spokesperson wouldn’t confirm the news and the couple kept mum on the subject.
Then Sunday rolls around and Watts shows up on the red carpet wearing a pale yellow flowing gown belted around her upper torso. I think every woman in the world (especially the ones who have experienced pregnancy) knew Watts was expecting, though walking hand-in-hand down the red carpet with BFF Nicole Kidman certainly did nothing to quell rumors. I mean, really, what woman under 6-feet tall and over 100 pounds walks anywhere near Nicole Kidman? Come on.
But, back to Schreiber’s appearance on O’Brien. Not only did the 39-year-old actor confirm that the couple’s “embryo” got to be at the Oscars, he also confirmed that the child will not be named Liev.
“It’s an awful name,” said Schreiber. “It’s probably the most oft-mispronounced name in showbiz.”
While Schreiber broke his silence regarding the baby, he did remain mum on rumors that he and Watts (who have been dating since 2005) are planning a wedding.
