Change Your Bedding, Change Your Sex Life

Even though the title might suggest such, I’m not about to tell you how to salvage a slumping sex life by simply putting fresh sheets on your bed. (Although, if it has been weeks since you changed them, I could see how that might help.)

Rather, I’m talking a makeover for your bed.

Courtney, you do realize we’re in the midst of recession, right? Weren’t you the one freaking out about it not too long ago and coming up with ways to survive it without spending a lot of cash?

Why, what a great memory you have! Yes, in fact that was me, but I haven’t said anything about spending a lot of cash.

Don’t makeovers generally imply spending money?

Maybe a little bit, but I’m not talking a full scale window treatment to comforter to bedroom furniture makeover. I’m talking about jazzing up what you already have to add a little spice back to your life. (Although, hey, if you have the cash to go full out, more power to you!)

I got the idea for this article a while ago when I was in the dealership having some work done on my car. They had the TV in the waiting area tuned to HGTV. I forget now which show it was, but it had something to do with restyling a room in someone’s house. (Maybe the show where they do renovations for $1,000 or less?)

Anyway, one lucky couple’s bedroom was the featured makeover for the show. One of the designers made a comment about how changing it every year, even if it’s just a little bit, can help keep the bedroom sizzling.

This means doing stuff like:

  • Keeping it clean. (Or cleaning it up if it’s gotten really bad.)
  • Preserving it as an adults-only retreat. (For those of you with children.)
  • Switching out knickknacks or photos. Or clearing some away if they’ve gotten out of hand.
  • Moving bill paying, ironing, mending, or any other chore related activities to another room in the house.
  • Adding candles to the room.
  • Getting a coverlet or a duvet (money permitting) to freshen up the color scheme or change it a bit.
  • Adding some decorative pillows, or taking some away if you have too many.

Basically the idea was this: if you want romance, you have to create a romantic environment. Since the bedroom’s the logical choice for that, it stands to reason that just by freshening it up –or romancing it up– you can rekindle any flames that might have been flickering out.

So if you’re sex life’s in need of a little rekindling, maybe these suggestions will help. Happy makeovering and romancing!
