Charlie Sheen kicked off his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth./Defeat is not an Option” tour this weekend and apparently it was either a horrible flop or a smashing success, depending on which show you saw.
The first night of Sheen’s tour was in Detroit and by all reports, it did not go well. All 4,700 seats of the Fox Theater were sold out, but the warm up comedian, Kurt Fox, failed to work up the crowd. He was booed so much that Sheen had to come out and calm them down.
Sheen brought out the goddesses (Bree Olsen and Natalie Kenly), which caused the crowd to cheer. He burned a bowling shirt, the style he is known for wearing on “Two and a Half Men.” Then he ranted and raved for a few minutes, seemingly keeping the crowds interest.
Unfortunately, things only got worse as the night went on. He went into a nonsensical speech, saying things like “Tonight I am delivered by cyber cloud, with the stomp and glisten of heaven’s produce section.” Huh?
Eventually the crowd turned on him, booing and many asking for refunds.
But, just like many other aspects of his life, Sheen got redemption at his Sunday night Chicago show. It was described as a 90-minute talk show with Sheen. There was no warm up comedian, just the crowd of 3,600 giving Sheen a standing ovation as they chanted “Detroit suck! Detroit sucks!” Sheen talked about “Two and a Half Men,” his failed marriages, the goddesses, call girls and paying for sex. It was the Sheen many people love – hilariously funny and shockingly crude.
Maybe it just took Sheen one show to warm up. Next up this week, the warlock will go to Cleveland and Columbus Ohio, New York City, Wallingford, Conn., then back to New York City.
