Chase Away The Chill and Plan a Family Reunion – Part 2

Now that you have decided to plan a family reunion and you have figured out who you will invite, the date of the event, and a general geographic area where the event will take place, it is time to get to the fun work of figuring out the rest of the details for the reunion.

Choosing a venue for your family reunion can be a lot of fun. Of course if you are planning a summer reunion, the big question is whether to have it indoors or outdoors. Depending upon the geographic area where you will be having the reunion, there may be parks, beaches, and other fun outdoor venues available. There might also be restaurants or indoor facilities that are appealing. Take some time to see what is available and what the costs are, and perhaps even poll a few family members to see what they think.

Good food is essential for a fun family reunion. When you are deciding what to do for your family’s reunion, you can choose between having your event at a restaurant, having it catered if it is at a place that is not a restaurant, or having a pot luck arrangement where guests bring food to share with everyone. Each of these options is a good fit for some families and it will probably be fairly easy to tell which is the best for yours. I am very excited to be attending a pot luck family reunion this summer but have not yet committed to which dish I will bring.

Fun activities are also important for a good family reunion. There are all kinds of genealogy themed games and contests that you could do at an indoor event, and if the event is outdoors you may want to mix some of those in with team sports and games. Guessing games involving old family photos are always a hit and you can make them however you like whether it is simply naming who is in each photo or matching siblings with each other, parents with children, or something else entirely.

These are the basics of planning a family reunion. Every reunion is unique and special, and it is important to not let yourself get overwhelmed by the details of event planning so that you can enjoy yourself right along with everyone else.
