Cheap Camping

left

Camping is one of the most affordable vacation options available, unless you are roughing it at a National Park. Some of this country’s most spectacular natural treasures charge an arm and a leg for lodging, which makes affording a summer getaway quite challenging, especially for families traveling on a tight budget.

Fortunately, there are ways you can experience the wonders of nature at some of the country’s most awe-inspiring parks without going broke. The key is timing. Waiting until late summer/early fall when kids are heading back to school and group travel takes a dive, provides you with the opportunity to enjoy legendary camping sites like Grand Canyon National Park and Glacier National Park for less than $100 per night.

Grand Canyon National Park: No trip to Arizona is complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon. Bargain hunters can score big this fall by staying on the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Lodging there is currently selling for $92 per night for a decent-sized cabin. While not directly on the Rim, The Maswik complex offers clean cabins and is located near a cafeteria and shuttle stop. For a couple dollars more per night, you can bunk in a standard room at Bright Angel Lodge, a property that is also within walking distance of the South Rim.

Glacier National Park: This natural gem nestled in picturesque Montana is a family favorite. What’s more, you can explore the park without emptying your wallet by staying at Swiftcurrent, a property that offers one-bedroom cabins with private bathrooms for just $92 per night. You can save $20 per night if you rent a cabin without a toilet. Communal restrooms are available on-site. What’s more, the walk to the bathroom provides some of the most spectacular scenery the National Park system has to offer.
