Nothing says Easter like a basket filled with chocolate bunnies and marshmallow chicks. However, I’ve tried making homemade Peeps and I wouldn’t recommend taking on the challenge if you have little ones trying to “help out” in the kitchen.
If you are looking for more kid-friendly Easter chick crafts that won’t break the bank, then stick to the following:
BABY FOOTPRINT CHICKS
Materials:
Yellow paint
Large container with flat base
Large piece of construction paper
Cornmeal
Glue
Directions:
Pour yellow paint into large container big enough for kids to dip their feet into.
Have your child select a piece of construction paper.
Have him take off one shoe and one sock (only one bare foot is required for this craft).
Have child gently dip his foot into the yellow paint, then place his foot on the construction paper.
The heel will be the chick’s head.
Before the paint dries completely, have your child add glue around his footprint and sprinkle on cornmeal, so his “chick” has something to eat.
Have your child decorate his footprint to look like a baby chick. Use orange paint to add a beak and black paint for the feet.
Allow paint to dry and then decorate the house with Baby Footprint Chicks.
FOAM EASTER CHICKS
Materials:
Assorted sizes of Styrofoam eggs
Styrofoam block
Toothpicks
Yellow and orange craft paint
Brown craft paint
Fine point marker
Florist oasis
Green plastic Easter grass
Ribbon
Directions:
To create the egg chicks, push a toothpick into the bottom of each egg and place the other end of the toothpick into a Styrofoam block.
Paint the eggs assorted colors, and then let them dry.
Next, add some finishing touches to your chicks: Add a beak and feet with brown paint, then use the black marker to create eyes, a mouth, and an outline of the wings.
Once your baby chicks are completely dry, it’s time to assemble the basket.
Place a square of oasis in the bottom of the basket and then cover it with green plastic Easter grass. Remove the chicks from the Styrofoam block and stick them into the oasis.
Tie a ribbon to the basket handle and add some jellybeans or other sweet treats to the basket before gifting it to a loved one on Easter.
