Cheap Tools of the Trade

If you are a true frugal scrapper, you have looked around your house before and thought, “Could I use that on a scrapbook page?” Well, the answer was probably yes! I have a few ideas for using some household tools that maybe you haven’t thought of before.

1. Getting a distressed edge on a page. There are many ways to do this, but have you ever thought of using your zester? You know, like the one you use for your lemons or oranges when cooking? Try it out! It should give you that perfect distressed look! Just make sure you wash it before putting it back in your utensil drawer.

2. A Clip it Up. These little things can be quite expensive. The one I have linked here retails on one scrapbook website for $55 on sale! Whew, that is just too much for me to hang my stickers. But, what about using an old lamp shade frame, and some paper clips? Wouldn’t it do the trick?? I think it would.

3. What about a storage tip? One idea I’ve seen is to use Gerber baby food jars for your tiny embellishments. Wouldn’t it be great to remove those labels and line all those cute little jars up in a row displaying your buttons, bows, and brads? I think so! For a look that isn’t see through, you could use old solid colored pill bottles and put a new label on them to make them more attractive.

4. My last little tip is on how to make another embellishment for cheap! Don’t you just love a little sparkle on a scrapbook page? It really can make a page pop. One thing I just love to use, are the sparkly swirls like this one. What about making your own though? It’s easier than you think. Simply buy yourself some iridescent puff paint and you will have some homemade pearly swirls in no time.

One thing I have to admit is that I haven’t tried all of these yet. But, I plan to. Soon. So, you should check back in a few days for my report on how these ideas might work in your Happy Scrappy Place.
