Checking Out Curb Alerts

You never know what you will find just sitting on the side of the road. Although some people see this as picking up “someone else’s junk” you can find some decent things along the side of the road. I am not talking about somebody’s trash, but very useful and decent items that someone else does not want anymore.

People are so incredibly busy these days. It is becoming more the “norm”, as each year passes. People clean in their spare time, which is usually “here or there”. More and more people work these days to make ends meet and they are exhausted between doing their jobs and taking care of their families. When they clean they just want to get the job done in as little time as possible. Since we like nice things and have far more than we should in terms of material goods, we have a lot to throw away. Since our time is limited many people do not want to be bothered with reselling them or donating them as these things take too much of the already limited time in our lives.

On craigslist and in the newspaper you will sometimes see the words “curb alert”. It will give an address and the day that you would find items that others are throwing away. It is usually posted a day or two before the person has their garbage pickup. The reason that they alert you is that they know that there are some things that are still very good that they just do not want anymore and do not want to bother finding homes for. You can usually find some great things there.

If you are interested in getting freebies and do attend one of these “curb alerts” do not think of it as junk, but rather as going to a yard sale without the cost. Also, please leave things neatly stacked as near possible as the owner had them put out on the curb. Looking through the items does not mean leaving the area in disarray afterwards. If a person is kind enough to alert you of their freebies then it is only right to keeps things tidy.

Remember the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
