Chelsea Clinton Gets Married

It has been one of the most anticipated weddings of the summer and now it is over. Today, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton married Mac Mezvinsky, an investment banker.

Clinton and Mezvinsky have known each other for years, meeting when she was just 13. His parents are former Pennsylvania congresswoman Marjorie and former Iowa representative Edward. Both Clinton and Mezvinsky attended Stanford University, but he was a year ahead of her. Clinton dated Ian Klaus, whom she met when she was at Oxford University in England, but the two broke up in 2003.

The first public sighting of Clinton and Mezvinsky as a couple was in October of 2005 when they appeared together at Tao nightclub in Las Vegas.

Today, the two married at Astor Courts in Rhinebeck, New York before 400 friends. The small town had been descended upon by paparazzi hoping to catch a glimpse of the guests, couple, or ceremony.

It was an interfaith ceremony conducted by Rabbi James Ponet, Yale University’s Jewish chaplain and Rev. William Shillady, minister at Park Avenue Methodist Church. According to Associated Press, the couple read the poem “The Life That I Have” by Leo Marks. The poem goes “The life that I have, Is all that I have, And the life that I have, Is yours. The love that I have, Of the life that I have, Is yours and yours and yours. A sleep I shall have, A rest I shall have, Yet death will be but a pause, For the peace of my years, In the long green grass, Will be yours and yours and yours.”

Clinton, 30, wore a dress designed by Vera Wang, who also attended the wedding. The guest list was relatively star-free with a few exceptions such as actors Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, film producer Steven Bing, and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

Proud papa Bill Clinton released a statement which read in part, “We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day.”
