Child Neglect: An Update

Yesterday, I reported that two young girls had been found aimlessly walking the streets. The children, one and two years old respectively, were naked. Police picked the girls up. On returning them to their home, officials found that the home was in such bad shape that the girls, along with two siblings ages six months and seven years, were all placed in foster care. State investigators had visited the home in March and found nothing wrong.

More facts have come out today. The mother, who is 25 years old, suffers from extreme depression and seems to be unable to take care of her children. The state offered her a class that would help her with the children, but she did not take it.

The mother seems to be very skilled at getting pregnant and having babies. She does not have a clue regarding what to do with them once they are born.

Yesterday, when police arrived at the family’s ground floor apartment, the front door was wide open and the adults were asleep. The apartment had food on the floor and smelled of human excrement and urine. The three baby girls all had bad cases of diaper rash. Criminal charges are pending against the mother.

The good news is that toys and other gifts for the children are pouring in. In addition, the police department has received over $2000 in donations. Some of the money and gifts have come from other states.

The girls did not ask to be born into this situation. They need to be rescued and their mother needs to get any and all help that is available for her. For every story in the media, there are thousands of other children living in conditions like this. I hope that someone who reads about these little girls will decide to give them a proper home.
