Children’s Books We Are Loving Right Now

I love the library. Ever since I was a young child I have enjoyed reading immensely. My parents brought me to our local library all the time, and I have many fond memories of going there and choosing books to take home and enjoy. Now that I am a mom, I am discovering the library all over again. Even though I live in a different town now, and a different state, too, the feeling of going to the local library is a warm and familiar one.

Dylan loves the library too. Whenever we pass by it, he asks if we can go there. When we go, we go down to the children’s section where there are all kinds of great books for kids of all ages. Dylan usually runs for the toys, so I pick out a few books for us to take home. It is interesting how we love some of the books that we pick out, yet others get read once and then put back in our “library bag” until we return them. Here are a few titles that have recently been in heavy rotation at our house.

“Fire Engine Man” by Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemesha is one of Dylan’s favorite books lately. I really like it too. When we picked it out, I did not realize that a big part of the book is about being a big brother. The story portrays a warm and caring picture of being a big brother within a story about what firemen do.

“Sheep Out To Eat” by Nancy E. Shaw is part of a collection of “Sheep” books. The rhymes make it a ton of fun to read expressively, and we both end up laughing really hard every time we read it. Unfortunately, the other “Sheep” books are not available at our library so I’ll have to look around to track down the other ones because we both really want to read them.

“Mannenken Pis: A Simple Story Of A Boy Who Peed On A War” by Vladimir Radunsky explains war and peace in a way that a toddler can understand. I also like the message that it conveys, that war is futile. It is also rather funny – we both laugh every time we read it.
