Xin Nian Kuai Le!
Happy Chinese New Year.
The Year of the Dragon, the most powerful sign in the Chinese zodiac, kicks off on January 23rd. For 15 days you will be able to commemorate the popular holiday at massive public festivals complete with parades and firework displays.
Whether you are planning to take part in city-wide celebrations or you’re keeping it simple by hosting your own Chinese New Year party, you’ll want to document the festivities and add them to your scrapbook. Fortunately, there are many amazing Asian-themed digital scrapbooking elements that can help embellish your Chinese New Year page designs.
For traditional touches I would suggest visiting Digitals, which features a superb collection of Asian-themed scrapbooking kits. For a Chinese New Year layout, consider the Good Fortune Kit. For just $3, you can download the zip file and access four decorative background papers in classic Chinese colors (red, gold and black), as well as an assortment of mats, decorative squares for layering, ribbons, charms and brads.
The site also gives you the option to download a cheaper Asian-inspired kit. For just $2 the Asian Persuasion kit includes backgrounds in a host of peaceful tones, such as pink, sage, lavender and purple. All of the backgrounds include natural touches, such as cherry blossoms and bamboo. In addition, you can add-on a fan kit for just $1.50 more. The kit comes with five fans that feature different patterns, though all match nicely with the backgrounds included in the Asian Persuasion kit.
Other options include dragon embellishments or page borders that include lanterns, koi, gold coins, fans, cranes and flames. The touches can extend to your page title too. Look for sites that allow you to download Asian-inspired fonts, such as letters made from bamboo or ones shaped like Chinese fortune cookies.
