Chiropractic Adjustments During Pregnancy

When we first found out that I was pregnant with our second child, I started thinking about all the inevitable changes my body would undergo. I knew that at some point the extra weight and strain on my pelvis and the loosening of ligaments would result in a certain amount of misalignment which may or may not manifest itself by way of physical discomfort. Recalling my first pregnancy and the late pregnancy back pain (due to misalignment) that played a role in the baby turning breech, I wanted to ensure that I not only prevented this baby from turning breech but also take preventative measures against persistent lower back pain.

I have reached that point in my pregnancy when aches and pains come and go with some regularity largely due to my watermelon sized belly. While discomfort certainly is not constant, I wanted to take the steps necessary to prevent the constant back pain that I had experienced with my first pregnancy.

With my first pregnancy the back pain began at thirty three weeks and I tried to ignore it until we discovered that our baby was breech. Our midwives gave us a list of things to do in order to encourage the baby to turn. One of these things was to get chiropractic adjustments and it worked. My back pain improved and the baby turned head down.

Knowing the benefits of chiropractic adjustments, I began seeing a chiropractor at thirty two weeks. I found a chiropractor that is Webster Technique Certified and the adjustments are very gentle. In the beginning I felt a little sore from the adjustments, but after three adjustments my fleeting pains are even less frequent. I also attribute regular exercise to be a component of less discomfort. I feel that the combination of chiropractic adjustments and exercise (and diet) make all the difference in the world when it comes to late pregnancy aches and pains.
