Choosing a Frugal Christmas Tree

How will you choose a Christmas tree that beautiful but still frugal? Trees vary in price, so be sure to keep this guide in mind when you go shopping. It will help you make the best decision and save the most money, while still having a wonderful Christmas tree.

First, let’s talk about real trees versus fake trees. I have had both kinds, and they both serve their purposes well. If you are looking for a fake tree, consider spending a little bit of money to ensure that you have a well-made tree. Although they are very popular, do your research before choosing a pre-lit tree. You want to make sure that maintenance will not be a problem.

When choosing a real tree, you have a lot of different options. Pine trees are generally the least expensive, and “Fresh cut” trees and be less expensive than the trees you cut yourself on a lot. You can even scout our an cut a tree for free, if you do your homework first. Neighbors and community or public land lots may allow your to cut your own tree, as long as you go about it in a responsible manner and get permission first. You can have a nice Christmas tree by chopping off the top one third of a larger evergreen tree. It won’t harm the tree and in fact will help it to grown in to a fuller shape.

When purchasing a cut tree or a fake tree, it is important to get just enough tree for your needs. There is no reason to spend an extra $15-20 for a larger cut tree, when you may have to cut off a good chunk of it when you get home to make it fit. And believe it or not, a fuller tree, which is what everyone seems to want, is not always the best idea. Not only will it cost more, but a full tree will leave less room to show off your ornaments.
