Choosing the Right Words to Use in Your Marketing

Ever notice how advertisements and marketing campaigns seem to use words that are targeted to making you want to make purchases? Words like “sale” and “easy” and “best” are all common words that show up in advertising again and again. Have you given much thought to the words you are using as you work to promote your own home business?

Your advertising or marketing should influence people to want to use your products or services. In order to do that, you are trying to let them know that your products are great, your services are great, and that they can trust and rely on your company to provide for them what they need. In order to get all that across in an advertising message, you need to be choosing your words very carefully!

Keeping your message clean and clear is just the first step, making sure it is powerful is another. Consider words like: largest, established, great, all, easy, complete, better, recommended, fast, free, more, comfort, performance, style, available and tested—now I’m not saying you should use all these in your advertising, but just reading through them should give you an idea of how powerful words can be. You can probably just feel and absorb the message that could come with each word and see why they can be effective in an advertising or marketing message.

Of course, these are just a few commonly used words, just enough to get you started in coming up with some of your own and started looking over your advertising and marketing message to see if you are using the best words to get the job done. For added inspiration, look over some magazine print advertising, or spend an evening when you are watching television writing down the language and words that you notice in ads—you’ll be amazed at which words show up again and again and most likely be able to find some to use in your own promotions.
