What do you do on a Sunday that you don’t want to go to church? There are weeks when it just seems so much easier to stay home rather than get up and go to church. It is easy to justify staying home. However, it is important to go every week, unless you are sick. This sets up a habit that will help you to continue to go during difficult times. It is also important to go every week as an example to your children.
If you are having a difficult time going each week, it might help to determine what it is that is bothering you about going to church. Then you can address the reason that you do not want to go. Often people do not want to go because they are too tired to attend on Sunday mornings. This can be remedied by going to bed earlier on Saturday night or taking it easier on Saturday.
Another common reason to not want to go to church is that it is difficult to handle the kids during church. There are weeks that I feel like I don’t get anything out of going, but I realize that I am teaching my children important habits by going to church each week. I also realize that they will learn to sit still during church by going to church each week.
If you are tired of being asked to do something each week, because it cuts into your family time, you may just need to begin saying no to some of the extra projects that others need you to do. If your calling makes you want to skip church, it is worth talking to the bishop about it. Your calling should not be keeping your from church.
If there are other reasons that you do not want to go, you should pray about them, and come up with a solution to the problem. It is important to have a good church attendance habit and work on going each week. If you need help, reach out and talk to a friend or the bishop to have extra support to come to church.
