Now I’ve seen everything. Yesterday I popped into my local scrapbook supply store to pick up an extra pack of holiday-themed stickers for a layout I am creating to display my daughter’s school Christmas concert photos, but what to my wondering eyes should appear: a Christmas cookie scrapbook.
I’m not sure I would have believed it unless I saw it with my own two eyes. Sitting in the middle of the display table was a pimped out Christmas recipe scrapbook filled exclusively with amazing photos of the most divine cookies known to man and directions on how to make them at home.
To recreate a memory book like this at home, you need to have a ton of holiday recipes. If you don’t have yummy recipes to feature in the book, then ask family members or friends if they have a few recipes to contribute. Since it is the Christmas season, ask for recipes for menu items associated with the holidays.
In addition, inquire about family traditions that go along with the recipes so you can add that to your layouts. You might consider journaling about how a particular dish came to be a family favorite or include funny anecdotes about how one year a certain recipe almost didn’t make it to the table because it was left in the oven too long.
Once you’ve collected the recipes and stories, then work on the photos. Clear, colorful pictures are essential for a Christmas recipe scrapbook. You can take shots of the recipe being made, and then end with a photo of the finished product or include pictures of loved ones enjoying the sweet treats. Another idea is to have the person who created the recipe pose with the finished dish.
In regards to embellishments, consider adding stickers, stamps, and die cuts. Also, when choosing your fonts, stick to typefaces that are easy to read. Finally, you might consider laminating your pages in case you plan to use the recipe scrapbook as a real cookbook.
