Christmas Day 2010

2am: Christmas day was supposed to start here but our alarm didn’t go off. More at 3:42am.

3:42am: This is not when we were supposed to wake up to put the brisket in the crock pot but that is when it happened. Our big meal will happen at 1:42pm now. Oh, well.

6:30am: My wife has been awake for 30 minutes and our son just started crying. Waking up quickly I wished him a Merry Christmas and we began our day with 30 minutes in the bed relaxing, talking and nursing. He was happy. I was still asleep but there was a fire that needed starting.

7am: Presents under the tree! Filled stockings! Santa seemed to make it down the chimney! Our son didn’t really understand what was happening but he noticed that things had changed. What could possibly be beneath those paper wrapped boxes? What was in that big sock hanging above the fireplace with my name on it? Only time would tell… and it did. He pulled out lots of balls. A football: “ball.” A basketball: “ball.” An orange: “ball.” Another orange: “ball.” He proceeded to throw the oranges across the room.

9am: Our son fell asleep after playing with his new toys for a while. Mom and Dad sat and relaxed in front of the fire with coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls.

10am: Mom fell asleep on the sofa. My whole family is sleeping. Time to sneak another piece of peanut brittle and read some of my book.

Noon: Everyone is awake again. Our son seems like he woke up from a happy dream. He’s normally crying for Mommy, but today he’s bright eyed and kicking and rolling in absolute glee. I think he was dreaming about his toys, a Christmas tree, and a fire.

Later: Yeah… no specific time for this one. We have been having such a great time chatting with our families and snowed in uncle via video chat. We enjoyed our meal at 1:42pm, watched some entertaining films with coffee and creme brulee, and played catch with the various balls our son pulled out of his stocking. Today has been a joy and a whirlwind of fun. I must say that I’m sad to see it go. The fire is dying as I type this amidst wrapping paper on the floor and tape on the bottom of my new comfy slippers. The tree will soon go dark and my family will turn to the realm of dreams. Hopefully the wonder of today will last into tomorrow (and even further). Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas as well. Goodnight.
