Christmas Morning Part I

After all our frugal preparations for Christmas, I was particularly excited for Christmas morning this year.  Our son was really excited about Santa Claus bring presents to put under the tree.  Our daughter, who had just turned one, was far more interested in opening presents and listening to Christmas music this year than last year.  We were excited and interested to see how she would react to the lit tree with presents beneath. I went to bed on Christmas Eve excited for the morning.  Little did I know that it would come sooner than I expected.

At four thirty on Christmas morning I got an unexpected surprise as I rolled over in bed. At some point in the middle of the night our son had decided to climb into our bed and at four thirty in the morning I realized that he had wet the bed.  After taking care of our son and getting him into his bed with daddy to help him fall back asleep, I took my pee drenched bedding downstairs to wash them and to catch a little more sleep on the couch with my daughter (I was not about to make my bed at four in the morning).  I put in a movie to help my fall back asleep, but my daughter had no interest in going back to sleep for she had already seen the big purple exercise ball with a red ribbon and she was ready to play!  I was still hoping for a little more sleep so I asked her if she would like to nurse and she readily responded by signing milk.  I thought we were good to go but about five minutes later both my son and husband came downstairs too. Apparently our son could not sleep either.

Thus our Christmas morning began at five sharp!  We decided we were going to have a relaxing and slow Christmas morning by taking our time with gift opening a breakfast.  After our children opened or rather retrieved their first presents, a purple ball for our daughter and my dad’s old snare drum for our son (he was so excited he could not be contained!), I started preparing breakfast by taking the traditional Christmas Morning Rolls out of the refrigerator to bake and frost and heating pans for bacon and eggs.  My husband prepared the French Press for coffee while intermittently playing with the children…
