Whether you are having a snow day or just want to avoid spending money at the malls, being prepared for a Christmas movie marathon is a good idea. You can enjoy some fun family entertainment for free.
Just pop the popcorn, grab an extra blanket and snuggle up on the couch with your family.
ABC 25 Days of Christmas
The television station, ABC, offers Christmas shows every evening during December. You usually get at least three shows back to back in any given night. They don’t seem to duplicate the shows, or at least not during the same time slots. This makes it nice, since you can see different ones, if you follow the schedule faithfully. The Library
Check out two or three holiday movies from the library for your movie marathon. Often you can do an interlibrary loan if your local library doesn’t have much of a selection. Choose modern classics, as well as some older films. Some of my favorite choices include: The Polar Express, Miracle on 34th Street, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Christmas Eve/Day Marathons
If you happen to be home, you can usually find movie marathons on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Some marathons consist of the same movie played over and over. The Christmas Story is usually available this way. Others offer 24 hours of different Christmas movies. Having the same movie play over and over is helpful, since the reality is that you will be busy throughout the day, just catching a few minutes of the show here and there.
The Internet
For a little mini movie marathon, surf YouTube for some fun favorites that might not be available any more. If you remember a favorite local Christmas show, you may find it here. This is also true for all of those old celebrity Christmas specials, such as ones hosted by Bob Hope and Dean Martin.
