Ok, I’ve done it. I’ve bitten the bullet and finally put down my foot with an authoritative hand and all the other associated clichés you can think of. The time has come to put the Disney Christmas videos and DVDs away until the Holiday season is upon us once more. It’s almost the end of February for goodness sake – you’d think the boys would be sick of watching Disney characters getting snowed in at the House of Mouse, or Donald’s nephews reliving Christmas Day over and over until they do it right, or even Minnie and Daisy having their skate off. But no, not my boys! The cartoon ones are bad enough when played out of season, but my two little scamps are still enjoying the Disney sing-a-long carols (characters singing popular carols and Christmas songs) – and that’s well past being time appropriate!
Last night we were watching Donald’s rendition of Scrooge and it hit me like a brick to the head, it’s FEBRUARY! Why am I watching this so long after Christmas? And of course another mental brick hit the other side of my head as I realized that I was watching it not because the boys had requested it, but because I hadn’t put the tapes and DVDs away! I can’t blame the boys. They have their shelf of videos and DVDs and as part of their wind down before the bed-time routine; they get to choose which they’re going to watch. If the Disney Christmas ones weren’t there – they wouldn’t choose them!
So this morning, once they were off to Pre-K, I removed 3 videos and 2 DVDs from their entertainment shelf. I doubt they’ll miss them, there are so many others to choose from, but if they do, they’ll be told that they can have them back when it’s time to light the first of our advent candles. Next year I must remember to pack away Mickey & Co when we take down the tree!
