Christmas Tree Tortilla Snacks

Christmas is a time for sugar and more sugar. We spend a lot of time thinking of Christmas cooking and baking in terms of high fat and high sugar. However there are healthy snacks that are fun and festive that your children will enjoy. The ideas below are simple and a great idea for lunch or a snack.

Christmas Tree Tortilla Snack (Veggie)

Ingredients:

Tortilla

Sliced carrots and celery

Shredded cheese

Cherry tomatoes

Guacamole

Instructions:

Cut your tortilla into a tree shape using kitchen sheers. (a spinach tortilla has a nice green color for your tree)

Spread the guacamole on the tree.

Add on the celery to appear as branches.

Top with carrots and cherry tomatoes as the ornaments

Finally top with shredded cheese to appear as garland

Christmas Tree Tortilla Snack (Fruit)

Ingredients:

Tortilla

Blueberries, strawberries, sliced kiwi, sliced bananas

Cream cheese

Instructions:

Cut your tortilla into a tree shape using kitchen sheers. (a spinach tortilla has a nice green color for your tree)

Add green food coloring to your cream cheese and spread on the tortilla. You do not have to add the food coloring if you do not desire to. A white tree will appear as snow.

Arrange the kiwi slices on the tree to look like branches.

Top with the blueberries and bananas as ornaments.

Slice the strawberries and top as ornaments.

Get creative and find other fun foods to decorate your tree from raisins to nuts. You do not have to follow traditional colors or get to elaborate. A tree tortilla topped with peanut butter and bananas will give the Christmas tree look. Have fun and possibly plan a week before Christmas of decorating tree shaped tortillas for snack or lunch. Your child will enjoy this activity and will be more likely eat her fruits and veggies.
