There is something very dickensian about a wedding at Christmas and I think were I to plan a wedding now, I’d intertwine it into the Christmas season and take advantage of all the beautiful ideas, decorations and music available within the Christmas season. However, planning a Christmas wedding comes with a whole set of other problems, including involving other people in planning the wedding in and around the holiday season.
Dickensian Wedding
When you hear the word Dickensian, chances are you think of old fashioned street lamps, beautiful clothing, bonnets and even snowy scenes with horse drawn sleighs. You wouldn’t be far wrong, Dickensian is the image many of us have of middle to late 19th century England when Charles Dickens wrote his classic A Christmas Carol.
So when you’re planning a Christmas wedding, you can intertwine the traditional Christmas themes with your wedding themes. Your decorations for the chapel can emphasize the birth of Jesus – offering a sense of renewed hope for the couple making their vows around this auspicious time. You can toast with hot apple cider or wassail. You can serve Christmas cakes or pies as the desserts and even a huge roasted turkey with all the trimmings or a ham with rings of pineapple.
For the wedding presents, set up a huge Christmas tree and let the guests place the wrapped presents beneath the tree. Print your wedding invitations on Christmas cards and give your guests ornaments as wedding favors and more. You can marry with the snow falling outside or in the sunshine in the garden if you live in a sunny winter area.
Christmas Weddings
There’s something very beautiful about a wedding at Christmastime because it’s already a time of celebration. You may also forgo wedding presents and instead, ask your guests to partake in an Angel tree, giving gifts to those that need them most during this holiday season. There are so many ways that you can give with a holiday wedding and receive such a beautiful gift of honor and commitment in return both from your families and friends, but also from the season itself.
