I have found that subscribing to the church magazines has been a wonderful blessing for my family. I look forward to receiving the magazines each month, and reading the articles. I am often touched and I am always uplifted spiritually. I can not tell you the number of times articles have brought tears to my eyes (and I am not one who cries easily). The magazines offered by the church will give you a chance each month to refill your spiritual reservoir.
“The Ensign” is written for adults. It contains “The First Presidency Message” each month, which is the home teaching message for each month. It also contains articles on the Sunday School and Relief Society/Priesthood lessons for the month. I have found that reading these articles bring a greater insight and understanding into my scripture study. There are also several articles on various church related topics. I love the section at the back, which gives an account of the church news.
“The New Era” is written for youth or teenagers. This is a magazine, which contains gospel-related articles on topics that are relevant for the youth. The articles are uplifting. Several articles each month relate personal experiences of how people gained their testimonies or realized something important about the gospel. There is also an LDS humor section, which has jokes and cartoons in it. There are often idea lists for a wide range of topics from group dating to planning an activity night.
“The Friend” is written for the children. In each magazine there are several stories explaining gospel principles and how the principles apply to daily life. The articles are well written and are engaging for the young reader. Each issue has a special section called “For Little Friends” which includes stories and activities designed for preschool age children. The magazine contains several activity pages as well.
You can also subscribe to receive “The Church News.” This is mailed once a week and includes items of interest related to the church. It also contains uplifting thoughts and personal experiences. If you are not a native English speaker you can subscribe to “The Liahona,” which is available in many different languages. You can learn more about subscribing here.
