Cities with the Best Air Quality

Honeywell AirGenius has announced the best cities as far as air quality goes and I am not shocked to find Memphis was nowhere close. Well, I shouldn’t saw nowhere close because we did rank in the top 100 – 82nd. Hey, we are ranked above Los Angeles, St. Louis, Dallas-Forth Worth, and Philadelphia.

I read a statistic recently that said we take over 21,500 breaths a day, but we often don’t think about exactly what we are taking in with each of those breaths. The AirGenius Awards were based on airborne pollen levels, particulates air population, and smoking regulations.

If you want clean air, you may want to consider moving to Florida. Florida found six of it’s cities in the top 25. In fact, three Florida cities – Palm Bay Melbourne-Titusville, Cape Coral-Fort Meyers, and North Port-Bradenton Sarasota – were the top three, in that order.

What other cities ranked near the top as far as air quality? Honolulu, Hawaii was number four and Tuscon, Arizona rounded out the top five. As you might imagine, Colorado Springs, Colorado made it (#6) and another Arizona city – Albuquerque – was listed at #7. I was a bit surprised to see as metropolitan an area as Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Washington make the top 10 at #8. Good for Seattle!

Number 9 went to Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville, South Carolina and Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida (which I just visited a few months ago) was #10.

What I found surprising was that I couldn’t find one Idaho town in the top 100. I’ve been to Idaho several times and the air seems so fresh. Maybe the problem is Idaho doesn’t have a lot of “cities” and perhaps Boise’s air quality isn’t that great.

Some other cities that came in the top 100 that might surprise you are El Paso, Texas (#21), Columbus, Ohio (#22), Kansas City, Missouri (#23), and Baltimore-Townson, Maryland (#25). Even Detroit-Warren-Livoria, Michigan surprised me by coming in at #26.

You can see the entire list to find where your city falls at the Honeywell Plugged In Facebook page.
