Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets

One area of the kitchen that you may not think about much when it comes to cleaning is your cabinets. But you can keep them looking good for a longer time with some care.

Ideally, wiping the outside of your cabinets on a daily basis will help in maintaining the look. This is especially true for those cabinets that are located near your stove. You would be surprised at how much grime and grease ends up on the outside of your cabinets after you have been cooking.

But if a daily wiping down sounds like too much, then try to schedule this in as a weekly chore. At the very least, try to wipe the outside of your cabinets that are located near your stove every time after you cook. You are already likely wiping your stove down, so you add a few seconds by also wiping your outside cabinets.

But don’t forget about the inside of your cabinets. Over time crumbs and dust can buildup. If things get really bad, you could end up attracting pests. So a good cleaning schedule for the inside of your cabinets is every 3 or 6 months.

Make sure you completely empty your cabinets. This is also a great opportunity to get rid of anything you don’t want…either throwing it away or giving it away. Using just a little soap and water, wipe down the inside of the cabinet and use another towel to wipe it dry. Otherwise you could find that any water left behind will warp the wood.

Of course, it’s also a good opportunity to do some organizing. It may not last long but you can enjoy an organized cabinet for at least some time. You may also decide to move things around in your kitchen cabinets so that it makes sense. For instance, if your spices are located in a cabinet that is far away from your stove, it might make more sense to move them to a cabinet located right by the stove.

Having clean kitchen cabinets not only adds a nice look to your kitchen but you will feel better about having things clean and organized.
