Do you know someone who is moving into a new home? Perhaps it is your child’s first apartment. Or you know of a couple who is getting married and will be starting off fresh.
It might not sound like the greatest gift idea but putting together a housekeeping basket might be just what they need. Think about what it’s like to start off with nothing. You have dishes to buy, linens and the list goes on.
So what are some basic cleaning supplies that can be assembled into a basket? Here are some ideas.
Dusting Supplies – microfiber cloths (my favorites), furniture polish, or a feather duster
General Cleaners – all-purpose cleaner, rubber gloves, scrubbers, sponges, cleaning cloths, soft scrubbing cleaner
Specialized Cleaners – kitchen cleaner or wipes, bathroom cleaner or wipes, oven cleaner, dish soap, laundry soap, fabric softener, spot remover, air freshener, glass cleaner
Now you don’t just have to place these items in a basket. You could use a brand new bucket, a plastic container for organizing or even a dishpan.
You can even make it all pretty with a bow. Or wrap it up in gift paper.
If it seems like this might be too expensive of an idea, visit your local Dollar Store or check out the dollar-priced aisles found in most stores. You would be amazed at how much you can get.
But don’t forget to include other items that make a nice housewarming gift like candles, notepads, oven mitts and towels. You can get really creative with this. And chances are that you will have given a gift that is truly unique.
To change things up you might even go by a theme. Is the person you are buying for concerned about conserving the earth? Put together a green-friendly cleaning basket. Try to personalize the gift as much as you can, so that the products will get the best use.
