I’ve been thinning the house out again. It’s a sickness, this purging thing I have going on. I can’t stand to own things that are not living up to their full potential.
This time, it’s my freezer. I bought the freezer when Hailey was still living at home thinking it would be great extra food storage. Turns out that all we ever kept in there was frozen pizzas and pie crust. Not the most efficient use of the space, or the money spent on the freezer.
Now that Hailey is married and in a place of her own, the freezer hold a few old high school dance corsages and pie crust. It’s a waste of space and a waste of electricity. Your freezer has to run harder to stay cold if it’s empty. I thought I would do some once a month cooking and freeze it in meal size portions but then I thought, who am I kidding, that’s not going to happen.
It was hard for me to think about getting rid of it because when I was married I always wanted one but there was never enough extra money. Now that I have one, I am having a hard time justifying keeping it but it’s just as hard to get rid of.
I listed it online and then needed to defrost it. I forgot about manually defrosting freezers. This was fairly easy because I haven’t had it that long. I turned it off and let everything melt. After I drained it I wiped the inside out with a towel and turned it back on.
I took the damp towel and wiped the outside down. Now it looks brand new, so I’m even more heartbroken to get rid of it. I’m sure someone else will put it to good use, after all I don’t need much freezer space for frozen dinners for one.
