Cleaning The New Apartment

At the beginning of February Hailey will get the keys to her first apartment. She and I have both taken the day off to get the apartment clean and ready for furniture.

Some people say you don’t need to clean an apartment, the complex will clean it before you move in. I’m sorry, that’s just not a good enough clean for me. I’ve seen how those apartments get cleaned. I plan on teaching Hailey how to start with a clean home so it’s easier to maintain.

We will clean all the cabinets inside and out and then line them with shelf paper. Not only will this protect her dishes but it will make the cabinets and drawers easier to clean out if they need it.

Of course the bathroom will get a good scrubbing, including cleaning the drains, you never know what lives down there.

We will clean the inside of the windows and wipe down all the baseboards. The house will shine before she moves anything in.

I will also buy her a new furnace filter and teach her to replace it. Apartment complexes do not change the filters as often as they should and with Hailey’s asthma, she needs a clean furnace filter.

I know I’m probably going a little overboard but I want her home to be clean and perfect when she moves in.

I cleaned up my old vacuum so she can take care of her carpets, hopefully she won’t dread vacuuming as much as I do.

I also want to make sure she has all the little things that are sometimes forgotten, like a plunger and a fire extinguisher. I will also replace all the smoke detector batteries.

My baby may be leaving home but that doesn’t mean I can’t do all I can to make it a smooth, safe transition.
