It used to be that you could clean a typical home office in less than 10 minutes. However, these days with so many individuals working from home and the boom in high-tech gadgets which make telecommuting possible, you could spend well over an hour cleaning and organizing your home work space.
I used to be able to clean up my home office in 30 minutes. I would arm myself with a can of Pledge, a bottle of Windex, some old rags and a vacuum, and be out in record time. Not so much anymore. Since I work from home I have several delicate computer-related items that would sustain damage if I hit them with Pledge and Windex.
For example, I no longer have a CRT computer monitor. CRT monitors can be cleaned with Windex or other commercial glass cleaners. A few swipes will remove standard dirt, dust and fingerprints from the glass monitors. Just remember not to spray the liquid cleaner directly on the monitor, as the solution could seep into the screen and damage the wires and guts. Instead, spray some Windex onto a soft cotton rag, and then gently wipe the glass monitor using even strokes.
Another good way to clean your CRT monitor is to use microfiber towels dampened with a little water. For dry cleaning monitors, use disposable dusters, such as Swiffer Duster Cloths or Staples’ Lint-Free Wipes, which offer nonabrasive cleaning to hard surfaces.
My cleaning regime is a bit different now that I have a LCD computer monitor. Since the monitor is delicate, I have to be extra careful during the cleaning process. No more spritzing with Windex. Commercial glass cleaners that contain acetone can damage LCD monitors. To clean a LCD monitor use a clean, dry, soft cotton rag. If your monitor is exceptionally dirty, then add a touch of isopropyl alcohol to the cloth, and then wipe the screen using gentle, even strokes.
