Clearing Clutter and Making A Few Bucks

I have been gathering stuff to have a yard sale. The problem is, it’s not quite enough stuff to make it worth the effort.

The pile in my garage is growing, I need to do something about it. I also need to re carpet the living room because the dog has used it as her potty. I planned on having the yard sale to pay for the carpet. Instead, I decided to post all the stuff online through a local news station.

This really is a convenient way to get rid of things that are cluttering up your house. I sorted all the stuff in the garage, some of it I will donate to the local thrift store but bigger items I’m selling online. I also had some things in the basement that hadn’t made it to the garage yet.

I was surprised at all the things I found that I could live without once I got serious about selling things.

It’s important to take good pictures of what you want to sell. You want someone to know what they are getting before they come out to your home. Make sure the lighting is good and you take pictures from several different angles.

If it is a piece of furniture, take measurements, also guess at the weight. Make sure your ad is very descriptive and gives someone the information they need to decide if they want to purchase an item.

Also, let them know what they will need to pick the item up. Some things will fit in a car but if it won’t make sure you state that in your ad so people don’t show up with a tiny car to pick up your rocking chair.

Don’t forget to describe the condition. Are there some chew marks on the leg of an end table from when your puppy was teething? Put that in the ad, don’t let it be a surprise when someone shows up.

I love decluttering and listing all this stuff online already makes the house feel cleaner. What can you live without?
