I have to admit that my weight loss has been on the slow side. But because my main goal is to make my lungs and heart stronger, and to make this routine really part of my normal life, I am okay with that. Slow and stead wins the race, right?
I’m still not counting calories, and I still don’t own a scale, but I do have two things to substitute. I have a better awareness of exactly what I am putting into my body and when, so there is little mindless eating. And instead of a scale, I have my clothing.
One piece of clothing that acts as my scale are a pair of pants with a “pre-baby” waist. The first time I tried to wear these, back in the winter, they were painful. They left angry red lines at my waist, and I felt bruised after a few hours of wearing them. Today I tried them on, and they are not only comfortable, but slightly loose.
Another pair of pants I own, one of my favorite pairs of dressy pants fit well this winter. I grabbed them to wear for church yesterday, and while I had been wearing them with a belt in recent weeks, yesterday I just couldn’t. They were so loose that the belt bunched them up too much and instead of the tailored look these pants were designed for, they looked more like the 80’s MC Hammer parachute pants.
This week, I also finally broke down and purchased two workout outfits. No more running in jean shorts and loose t-shirts that rub me raw. Plus the weather is getting a bit cooler, especially during the mornings. The expense of these clothes had me putting them off for a while, but as my husband said, “I’ve been doing it (working out) for a while, so it isn’t as thought they won’t get used.” And the pants were size medium!
I wore my first new outfit this morning. What a difference that was. The clothes were so much more comfortable, and it really inspired me to push harder today. I went out for about 75 minutes today. And while I am not quite up to half of my distance in running, I probably managed to get in at least a mile of non stop running, so I am excited. How was your week?
