Is the love affair with neon colors over yet? Not completely, but most of this year’s colors are going to be a bit more subdued. There is an exception when it comes to exotic colors, such as the colors of exotic flowers, but for the most part color schemes are going to include jewel tones, neutrals, and pastels.
Some of these influences will pull colors from exotic rugs and jewels and give us a chance to enjoy deeper tones. From garnet and topaz to deep purple, we can indulge in rich color.
As far as neutrals go, beige is in again, but so are cream, tan, brown, as well as gray, white, and black. Gray is the new beige and other metallic inspired colors such as those that remind us of silver and chrome are also popular. Chocolate brown and black are great colors for adding deep contrast.
Pastels, or soothing colors, are also popular, for their calming spa-like effect. Powder blue, misty pink, pale yellow, lavender, and many nature-inspired greens like kiwi and green apple will make appearances this year. There will be a mix of these colors or in some cases, different shades or tones of pastels.
The gradient effect, often seen on clothing in the past, will be seen on walls and artwork.
These are the color schemes that will dominate home furnishings, accessories, and paint colors this year, but that doesn’t mean you have to follow these pallets strictly. You should always choose the colors you love; those that make you feel most comfortable in your home.
Those that love beige will be happy to see neutrals in the limelight, but this year’s colors also give us a great opportunity to experiment with richer colors and softer hues. If you have always wanted to experiment with color, but couldn’t quite embrace the neon thing, this is a great time to inject a bit more color with soft soothing shades or some rich jewel tones.
