Is your refrigerator the command center for your family? Are there business cards for the doctor, the plumber and the pizza deliver guy held up with little magnets? If your kids leave the house, do they put a note on the fridge? Are some of those notes older than you would care to admit? It may be time to clean the outside of the refrigerator.
I’m pretty good about keeping the inside clean and it’s easy to tell when it needs it but somehow, I look past the jumble on the outside. I can’t count how many times I open that door and never notice what’s on there, or at least I don’t notice until something falls off.
I think I should preserve the outside of my fridge for future generations to study. That thing is like an archeological dig. There is a section for pictures, lots of cute little magnetic frames with pictures stuck in them at weird angles. Hailey’s newborn hospital picture still hangs on the fridge, along with pictures of her with short hair, long hair, blue hair, braces and now one of her and her husband.
Then there is the quote area. I collect quotes and I want to be able to see them, so I hang them on the fridge. There is a heavy duty magnet with all our take out menus, many for places that are not even near where we currently live.
Everything had to go. I took everything off and scrubbed away all the fingerprints and miscellaneous sticky places. I also scrubbed the top, which I forget about because I can’t see it. After the top was clean I put plastic wrap on it so next time it’s dirty I can just peel the plastic wrap off.
I went through everything on the outside of the fridge and got rid of what I could and just put the most recent pictures and most meaningful quotes back up. The kitchen looks so much cleaner now.
I read somewhere that you can paint your fridge with chalkboard paint to use as a message board. I’m going to try that, I’ll let you know how it turns out.
