Well, it looks like the rush of iPhone news has died down a bit. We have had a great week talking about all sorts of things. Video games have been on the radar a lot.
July 16th
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative, started by Nicholas Negroponte, promises to bring laptops to children in less advantaged areas of the world. The laptops are an engineering feat of economy and efficiency. Currently they cost about $175, but the goal of the OLPC is to get that cost down to $100 or less with mass production.
July 17th
Before the release of the iPhone, there were many questions about how to get one, what the interface and functionality would be like, etc. After the release there was a new question: What sort of bug might appear?

Microsoft Copy Protection Hacked (Again)
Copy protecting music files that are purchased or shared electronically has always been an issue for the music industry. Elaborate DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology has been developed as a way to stop, or at least curb illegal sharing of music files.

Yes, they do, at least according to a couple of researchers. The authors of the study are Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Woessmann of Munich University, and they conducted their tests way back in 2005. In the computing world, two years can be a very long time, but although the study is older, I think it is still pretty interesting.
