Computing Review: November 26th Through December 2nd

Now that the holidays are fast approaching, don’t you wish you had a robot to do some of the work for you? Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if you can find one that will help out within the next few years. (See the article I posted earlier today to find out which home robots are available right now).

Meanwhile, you can still use technology in your holiday preparations. We’ve posted a lot of holiday related and practical info this past week, including some great stuff by a guest blogger.
Here is the Computing Blog week in review for November 26th through December 2nd.

Onion-Powered iPod

Out in the world without a power outlet but you still have a burning desire to listen to some tunes? Not to worry, you can charge your iPod up with onion power!

Pandora: More than Just a Create Your Own Radio Station Site

Up until a couple months ago I was using my ISP’s built-in radio (Comcast’s Rhapsody Radio), but it started acting unreliably. It’d stop all of a sudden or have sign in conflicts and kick me out. Which was a shame because I liked a lot of their stations, such as their Classic Soul, Classical Piano, Essential Classical, Holiday Music (at Christmas), Latin Dance, and World Picks.

North Pole Holiday Wallpaper

If you want Christmas or holiday desktop wallpaper, you’ve come to the right place. From elegant ribbons to cozy Christmas village scenes, North Pole Wallpaper is one of the best websites around for decorating your desktop this season. The wallpapers that they have are outstanding. My favorite one, the one I have on my laptop desktop is one of a single red christmas ball hanging from a snowy limb of an evergreen tree. It leaves plenty of space for my desktop icons, and is a simple design. The little bit of frost or snowflake on the Christmas ball is just the right touch.

Elfster.com: Your Online Secret Santa Helper

Sometimes you’re the elf, sometimes you need an elf’s help –especially if you’re in charge of coordinating any Secret Santa exchanges. Recently I discovered a cool site that helps with such a task: Elfster.

More Holiday Blinkies

Can’t get enough of those holiday blinkies? Here are some more great picks that you can have for free. Check out these blinkies in all shapes and sizes that you can use for your blogs, web pages, forum postings and e-mail. Just save them to your computer and enjoy. They can be so much fun. Although I am not usually a fan of very large blinkies, there are some really great ones in this bunch that I am excited about using. I really like the one of the country snowman in his polished oval.
